UPDATE on proposed plans March 2026

Residents are being encouraged to review and comment on revised proposals for the housing development at the Meadows site near Quarry Drive, Kilmacolm.

Although Scottish Ministers granted Planning Permission in Principle for housing on the site in January 2023, that decision approved only the principle that housing could be developed there. The detailed design of the development still requires approval from Inverclyde Council.

Developers must therefore obtain consent for the layout of the site, the types of houses proposed, drainage arrangements, road access, landscaping and other infrastructure.

Since the original approval, the developer involved in the project has changed, and the site is now being promoted by Barratt / David Wilson Homes.

The developer has now submitted a new application (26/0040/IC) proposing changes to the site layout and house types. Because these changes are considered significant, they must be assessed through a new planning application rather than simply updating the previous approval.

This means Inverclyde Council will reconsider the detailed design of the development and assess the proposals against current planning policy, including National Planning Framework 4 (NPF4), which became part of Scotland’s statutory development plan in February 2023 — only 18 days after the Scottish Ministers granted Planning Permission in Principle for the site, meaning the detailed proposals must now be tested against the new national planning framework.”

The new proposals have already generated considerable interest locally as residents seek to understand how the development may affect the character of the area and the surrounding landscape.

Residents can view the plans and submit comments through the Inverclyde Council planning portal by searching for application 26/0040/IC.

The deadline for public comments is 27 March.
